Ezra records events surrounding the return of the Jews from Babylonia (Persia) to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the temple. This book makes up one of three "Post-exilic" books in the Old Testament (Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther).Â
After detailing the first return of exiles from Persia to Jerusalem (chapters 1-6), chapters 7-10 introduces us to the Levite priest Ezra--for whom the book is named--and the second wave of exiles, 50 years after the dedication of the "second" temple by the first group of exiles under Zerubbabel.Â
